John 1:1-18
Key Verse 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

1. Why did the author use “the Word” to describe Jesus before he came to the world? Compare John 1:1 and Genesis 1:1. What might be the author’s reason for starting his Gospel in a way so similar to the start of Genesis? What can you learn about Jesus’ deity in this passage? (1,2,3,15)

2. What difference does faith in Jesus as the Creator God make in your life? (3-5; Ephesians 2:4-5)

3. What does it mean to receive and believe in Jesus, and become children of God? (12) What privilege does a person have when he or she becomes a child of God? (cf. Romans 8:17, 1 Peter 2:9)

4. What is involved in the Word becoming flesh? (Think about the almighty God becoming weak flesh.) Why is it necessary that Jesus became fully human? (cf. Hebrews 2:14-15) Think about how we can apply the incarnation principle to our life of faith.

5. What has God revealed about himself through the incarnation of Jesus? (18)
