THE WORD BECAME FLESH

John 1:1-18

Key Verse 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

1. Why did the author use “the Word” to describe Jesus before he came to the world? What might be the author’s reason for starting his Gospel in a way so similar to Genesis 1:1? What can you learn about Jesus’ deity in this passage? (1,2,3,15)

2. What difference does faith in Jesus as the Creator God make in your life?  (3-5; Colossians 1:16, Ephesians 2:10)

3. What does it mean to become children of God? (12) What privilege does a person have when he or she becomes a child of God? (cf. Romans 8:17, 1 Peter 2:9)

4. What was involved in the Word becoming flesh? (14) Why is it necessary that Jesus became fully human? (cf. Hebrews 2:14-15) How can we apply the incarnation principle to our life of faith?

5. What has God revealed about himself through the incarnation of Jesus? (18; cf. Colossians 1:15)
