LISTEN TO MOSES AND THE PROPHETS
Luke 16:16-31
Key Verse 16:29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’”
1. To whom is the kingdom of God good news? (16; “Everyone is forcing their way into it” can also be translated “Everyone is forcefully urged into it.”)
2. What is the contrast between the rich man and Lazarus? (19-21) How did the rich man use his worldly wealth? (cf. Luke 16:9)
3. What was the eternal destiny of each? (22-23) [Abraham’s side refers to the paradise in Luke 23:43; Hades refers to the place to which the wicked dead go to await the final judgment.]
4. What did the rich man ask Abraham? (24) Why did Abraham refuse the first request of the rich man? (25-26) What does a great chasm tell us about the finality of our eternal destiny?
5. Why did Abraham refuse the second request of the rich man? (27-28) Why should they listen to Moses and the Prophets? (29; cf. Luke 24:44) What does this teach about the importance of listening to the word of God? (30-31)
