Luke 5:27-39

Key Verse 5:32 “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

1. How were tax collectors regarded at that time? (30) What would Levi’s life be like because he was a tax collector?

2. What did Jesus see in Levi to call him as his disciple? (27) How could Levi make such a radical decision to follow Jesus? (28)

3. What did the banquet reveal about his changed life? (29) Why did the Pharisees complain about the banquet? (30)

4. How do Jesus and the Pharisees view sinners differently? (31-32) Does it mean that the Pharisees are healthy? What does it mean to repent?

5. How did Jesus answer the Pharisees’ question about fasting? (33-35) How is our life in Jesus like a wedding banquet? When will Jesus’ disciples fast?

6. What point did Jesus make by telling the parables of garments and wine? (36-38) What do “new wine” and “new wineskins” represent? What was the problem of the Pharisees? (39)
