Ruth 1:16-17, chapter 2, 4:13

Key Verse 1:16 “But Ruth replied, ‘Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”

* A Declaration of Commitment (chapter 1)

1. Describe the events that led to Ruth’s declaration of commitment. (1:1-17)

2. How could Ruth believe in God even though God made Naomi’s life and her life bitter? (1:20-21)

* Boaz and Ruth (chapters 2–4)

3. What were some of the coincidences that helped Ruth to meet Boaz? (2:1-5, 20) Why and how did Boaz show kindness to Ruth? (2:8-9, 11-16) How do you see the hand of God in these events?

4. What is a guardian-redeemer? [See the footnote on 4:1.] Why did the guardian-redeemer refuse to marry Ruth? (4:3-6) In what sense is Boaz a foreshadow of Christ? (cf. 1 Peter 1:18-19) 

5. The Moabites–the tribe Ruth came from, were Israel’s enemies. (cf. Deuteronomy 23:3) How did God show his extreme grace to Ruth? (cf. Matthew 1:5)
