BORN TO PREPARE THE WAY
Luke 1:1-25
Key Verse 1:17 “And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
1. What was Luke’s motivation in compiling the gospel account? (1-4) What do you know about Herod and his time? (Matthew 2:16)
2. Who were Zechariah and Elizabeth and what kind of problem did they have? (7) In what respects were they righteous in the sight of God? (6,13)
3. Describe Zechariah’s encounter with the angel Gabriel. What can we learn about the importance of Zechariah’s persistent prayer? (8-13)
4. What was the angel’s good news? (13) Why did the angel tell Zechariah the name of his son? [John means “God is gracious” or the gift of God.] Why was John great? (15; cf. Matthew 11:11)
