- Read verses 1-2. Who were the Magi and why did they come? What does it mean that they came to worship? What does ‘his star’ and ‘the king of the Jews’ suggest? (Rev 22:16b; Isa 9:1-2)
- Read verses 3-4. What were the responses of the King Herod and the people of Jerusalem? What did Herod do? (7,8) Why did he fail? (12) What does this show about him?
- Read verses 5-6. What does this prophecy teach us about Jesus? How is King Jesus different from King Herod and the kings (leaders) of the world? (Isa 9:6; Philp 2:6-11)
- Read verses 9-10. Why were the Magi so joyful to see the star? How can we be so joyful like the Magi in this troubled world?
- Read verses 11. What did the Magi do when they found Jesus? What was the meaning of their gifts? What is worship? What can we learn from Magi’s pilgrimage?
