Walk in the Fear of Our God

Nehemiah 5:1-19

Key Verse 5:9 “So I continued, ‘What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies?’”

1. What internal problems did Nehemiah and his people encounter during the reconstruction work? (1-5) What did Nehemiah do about these? (6-8) Why were they serious problems?

2. How did Nehemiah confront the nobles and officials? (9; cf. Exodus 22:25) What does “walking in the fear of God” mean? (cf. Psalm 86:11) Can you think of any other examples of those who walked in the fear of God? (cf. Hebrews 11:7)

3. How did Nehemiah set an example in dealing with the problems? (10) How did he help them further? (11-13, cf. Matthew 10:14)

4. How did Nehemiah serve the people when he became the governor of Judah? (14-18) Why did he refuse to use his rights and privileges as governor? (15-16; cf. 1 Corinthians 9:15-17)

5. How did Nehemiah pray to God? (19, 13:31) What can you learn from his serving and prayer?
