Isaiah 8:11-9:7
Key Verse: 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
1. Look at 8:5-8. What were the people of Israel fearful of? Why does the Lord tell the people to fear him?
2. For whom is God a holy place (sanctuary) and for whom is he a stumbling stone? (14,15; 1 Peter 2:7-8)
3. When they were overcome with fear, how did the people of Israel respond? (19-22) How did Isaiah respond in that same situation? (16-18)
4. How did the people in the land of Zebulun and Naphtali suffer in the past? (9:1, John 1:46) How
will they be blessed in the future? (Matthew 4:13-16)
5. Who is the light mentioned in verse 9:2? Why did they rejoice in such a way? (9:3-5)
