TO SEEK AND TO SAVE THE LOST

Luke 19:1-10

Key Verse 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”

1. What kind of man was Zacchaeus and why did he want to see Jesus so much? (1-4; cf. Luke 5:29)

2. What is the significance of calling Zacchaeus by name? (5) [Zacchaeus means “pure and innocent” in Hebrew.] Why did Jesus invite himself to Zacchaeus’ house? (cf. Revelation 3:20)

3. How did Zacchaeus respond to Jesus’ invitation? (6) Why did the townspeople grumble in response to Jesus’ going to Zacchaeus’ house? (7)

4. After meeting Jesus, what did Zacchaeus decide to do? (8; cf. Exodus 22:4) What is the contrast between Zacchaeus and the rich ruler in chapter 18?

5. How did Jesus respond to Zacchaeus’ repentance? (9) Why did Jesus call him a son of Abraham? (cf. Galatians 3:7) How does this story relate to what Jesus said about himself in verse 10? (cf. Ezekiel 34:16)
