Matthew 5:13-48

Key Verse 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

                

1. Review Matthew 5:1-12. What does the passage teach us about the character of God’s people?

2. In what way are Jesus’ disciples the salt of the earth? (13) What does it mean that salt loses its saltiness?

3. What does it mean that Jesus calls his disciples “the light of the world”? (14) How is it related to Jesus being the Light of the world? (cf. John 8:12) When do we hide our light?

4. In light of Jesus’ teachings in verses 21-48, how is the Christian life more radical than the lives of worldly people or the Pharisees?

5. How do these teachings illustrate our need for Jesus? (48; cf. Romans 3:20) How does living according to these teachings help us to be salt and light in the world?
