HE WAS LOST AND IS FOUND
Luke 15:11-32
Key Verse 15:32 “‘But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”
1. What did the younger son want and why? (11-12) Why did his father give him what he wanted even though it was highly disrespectful? What does this teach about God and man?
2. What happened after he squandered his wealth? (13-16) How does his emptiness represent our sinful state apart from God?
3. After hitting rock bottom, what did he realize and what did he decide to do? (17-20a) Why would it be difficult for him to go back to his father? How does this represent what it means to repent?
4. How did the father respond to his son’s repentance? (20b) What is the significance of clothing him and putting a ring on his finger? (22) How did they celebrate? (24; cf. Luke 15:7)
5. How did the older brother react when he heard the music, dancing and feasting? (25-28) Why was he so upset? (28-30)
6. What was his relationship with his father and how had he never understood his father’s love? (31-32) In what sense was the older son lost? What would repentance look like for him?
