FAITH OVERCOMES THE WORLD

Hebrews 11:29-40

Key Verses 11:39-40 “These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.”

1. What was the mental and spiritual state of the Israelites as they faced the Red Sea? (Exodus 14:10-14) How did the Israelites demonstrate faith in crossing the Red Sea? (29; Exodus 14:22)

2. Recall Joshua 6:1-20. Where was Jericho, and what was its importance strategically and symbolically? How did conquering Jericho require faith? (30)

3. Review Joshua 2:1-24 and Joshua 6:25. What was Rahab’s act of faith? (31) How did her faith make the conquests of Jericho and Canaan possible?

4. In verses 32-35, how were the weaknesses of each of these leaders turned to strength? In particular, consider Gideon, Samson, and David. (Judges 6:11-15; Judges 16:18-30; 1 Samuel 17:45)

5. In verses 35-40, how did these believers overcome such trials and sufferings? To what does God’s better plan refer? (40a; 8:10-12; 9:15) Why is it so important to have faith in every situation? (cf. Hebrews 11:6)
