Luke 8:40-56
Key Verse: 8:50 “Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, ‘Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.’”
1. Who was Jairus and what was his desperate situation? (41-42) Why would it be difficult for him to come to Jesus for help?
2. Why did the woman touch Jesus secretly? (43; Leviticus 15:25-31) Why was her touch different from that of the crowd? (44; cf. Mark 5:28)
3. Why did Jesus insist that the woman come forward? (45-46) Why did the woman need to hear Jesus’ blessing? (48)
4. What happened while Jesus was talking with the woman? (49) How do you think Jairus felt in that moment? Why did Jesus say to him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe”? (50)
5. How could Jairus bring Jesus to his house despite his despair and people’s criticism? (51-56) How can we “just believe” in the middle of adversity? (cf. Luke 7:7)
