1 John 4:19 says, “We love because he first loved us.” Everybody wants to be loved by someone. However weak human beings cannot love others without first knowing God’s love. When one does not know God’s love, one feels unloved, even though one is much loved. Praise Jesus who restored his love relationship with Peter in this way. Here we can see why Jesus pressed Peter, “Do you love me?” It was not to embarrass Peter or humiliate him. By helping him to make a public confession, Jesus wanted him to be healed from his wounds and restored.
