BE SHEPHERDS OF GOD’S FLOCK

1 Peter 5:1-14

Key Verse 5:2 “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them–not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve….”

1. Why is it significant that Peter calls himself a fellow elder? (1) What does it mean to Peter that he is a witness of Christ’s sufferings and his glory? (cf. 1 Peter 4:13)

2. What charge does he give to the elders? (2a) What does it mean to be a shepherd of the flock of God? (cf. John 10:11, 21:16)

3. What should be the attitude of a shepherd toward their task? (2b-3) What should be their motive? How should they exercise leadership? (cf. Luke 22:25-27)

4. How can a shepherd be an example to his flock? (3b; cf. 1 Corinthians 11:1, Philippians 2:5) When does a shepherd receive his reward? (4)

5. What attitude should those who are younger have toward their elders? (5-7) Why should we clothe ourselves with humility toward one another?

6. Why must we always be alert and of sober mind? (8-9) How can we be victorious over our enemy, the devil? (10)
