BE PATIENT AND PRAY
James 5:1-20
Key Verse 5:8 “You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”
1. Why should rich people weep and wail? (1) What will testify against them in the last days? (2-3) What evil have they done in the sight of God? (4-6; cf. 1 Timothy 6:10)
2. What can we learn from the farmer about patiently waiting for the Lord’s coming? (7-9) How is Job an example of patience and perseverance in the face of suffering? (10-11; cf. Job 1:21-22; 2:7-10)
3. Why should we not swear? (12; cf. Matthew 5:33-37) How is making oaths similar to boasting in James 4:16?
4. What should we do when we are in trouble, happy, or sick? (13-14) How is Elijah an example of a righteous person’s prayer? (15-18; cf. 1 Kings 17:1, 18:42-45) How can we have a powerful prayer life like Elijah? (cf. Mark 11:22-24)
5. What should be our response when we see someone wandering from the truth? (19) How can we turn a sinner from the error of their way? What does James mean by saying that doing so will cover over a multitude of sins? (20)
