At Antioch, the disciples of Jesus began to be called “Christians.” The name “Christian” was not given as a favorable name but as an unfavorable, slanderous, and even insulting name. But it was a badge of great honor for the disciples because they became worthy of suffering for the name of Christ; the most glorious and blessed name. Down through Christian history, this name “Christian” has been all believers’ identity as the one who belongs to Christ; as the one who is willing to suffer for Christ; as the one who represents Jesus’ image as a little Jesus who imitates him. May God bless us to grow as true Christians who carry and reflect Jesus’ image to this unbelieving, dark world!
