ALWAYS PRAY AND NOT GIVE UP
Luke 18:1-14
Key Verse 18:1 “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”
1. Why did Jesus encourage his disciples to always pray and not give up? (1; cf. James 5:7-8, 2 Peter 3:9) [In other versions, “give up” is translated as “lose heart.”]
2. How did Jesus describe the judge and the widow? (2-3) Why did the widow persist in her request to the unjust judge? (3-5) Why did he finally decide to grant her request? (5)
3. What did Jesus teach about God’s character through this parable? (7-8) What does God want us to do when we face hardship and injustice?
4. Describe the attitudes of the Pharisee and the tax collector in their prayers. (7-13) Why was the tax collector justified before God rather than the Pharisee?
5. In light of these two parables, what can we learn about God and prayer?
